Here are some of the ETFs that we will discuss at our meeting on Wednesday. The question is whether we should park our cash in an ETF, and if so, which of these ETFs, or combination of two ETFs, should we use.


The Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) tracks the performance of the of the MSCI US Broad Market Index. This index represents 99.5% or more of the total market capitalization of all of the United States common stocks traded on the New York and American Stock Exchanges and the NASDAQ over-the-counter market. The Fund typically holds the largest 1,200 to 1,300 stocks in its target Index (covering 95% of the Index’s total market capitalization).

 

The Vanguard Large-Cap ETF (VV) tracks the performance of the MSCI US Prime Market 750 Index. This index is a diversified index of stocks of predominantly large United States companies. The ETF attempts to replicate the target index by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in the stocks that make up the Index, holding each stock in approximately the same proportion as its weighting in the Index.

 

The Vanguard Mid-Cap ETF (VO) tracks the performance of the MSCI US Mid Cap 450 Index (the Index). This index is a diversified index of stocks of medium-sized United States companies. The ETF attempts to replicate the target Index by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in the stocks that make up the Index, holding each stock in approximately the same proportion as its weighting in the Index.

 

The Vanguard Small-Cap ETF (VB) tracks the performance of the MSCI US Small Cap 1750 Index (the Index). The Index is a diversified index of stocks of smaller United States companies. The ETF attempts to replicate the target Index by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in the stocks that make up the Index, holding each stock in approximately the same proportion as its weighting in the Index.

 

The iShares Russell 3000 Index ETF (IWV) corresponds generally with the price and yield performance of the Russell 3000 Index. This index measures the performance of the United States equity market. The Index is a float-adjusted, capitalization-weighted index of the 3,000 largest public issuers domiciled in the United States and its territories.

 

The iShares Russell Midcap Index ETF (IWR corresponds generally to the price and yield performance of the Russell Midcap Index (the Index). This index measures the performance of the mid-capitalization sector of the United States equity market. The index is a float-adjusted, capitalization-weighted index of the 800 smallest issuers in the Russell 1000 Index. The index includes companies with a market capitalization of approximately $2 billion and $25 billion, though these amounts may change from time to time.

 

The iShares Russell 2000 Index ETF (IWM) corresponds generally to the price and yield performance of the Russell 2000 Index (the Index). The Index measures the performances of the small-capitalization sector of the United States equity market. The Index is a float-adjusted capitalization-weighted index of equity securities issued by the approximately 2,000 smallest issuers in the Russell 3000 Index.
