{"id":256,"date":"2011-01-03T22:20:03","date_gmt":"2011-01-04T03:20:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stockherd.com\/blog\/?p=256"},"modified":"2011-01-09T10:32:53","modified_gmt":"2011-01-09T15:32:53","slug":"model-portfolios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stockherd.com\/blog\/?p=256","title":{"rendered":"Model ETF Asset Allocation Portfolios"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two model ETF portfolios have been added.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stockherd.com\/blog\/?page_id=113\">ETF Asset Allocation I<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This portfolio started with $10,000 on December 31, 2010.\u00c2\u00a0 It provides asset class diversification using 14 ETFs (8 Vanguard and 4 non-Vanguard ETFs).\u00c2\u00a0 The portfolio includes an equal weighting of US and foreign equities; large, medium, and small capitalization stocks; and U.S. and international REIT ETFs.\u00c2\u00a0 The portfolio has a value tilt.<\/p>\n<p>Vanguard ETFs offer particularly good value.  It is mutual company (meaning it is member owned and has no shareholders) and its ETFs have <a href=\"https:\/\/personal.vanguard.com\/us\/funds\/etf\/all?&amp;&amp;assetclass=stk&amp;assetclass=stk#hist=upperTB%3AattrTBI%3A%3AlowerTB%3AgenTBI\">low expense ratios<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, Vanguard has some gaps in its coverage of international ETFs.\u00c2\u00a0 So this model portfolio has included 4 non-Vanguard ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>Under Vanguard\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new ETF pricing, the total cost for setting up this portfolio would be $28, (4x$7) in commissions for the non-Vanguard IRAs, and an annual brokerage account fee of $20.\u00c2\u00a0 The use of ETFs allows broad diversification with a relatively small amount of money.\u00c2\u00a0 Most index mutual funds have a $3,000 minimum cash requirement.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stockherd.com\/blog\/?page_id=142\">ETF Asset Allocation II<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This ETF portfolio also started with $10,000 on December 31, 2010.\u00c2\u00a0  It  consists of five Vanguard funds.\u00c2\u00a0 It achieves simple but good asset  allocation with equal weight of US and foreign equities. It includes large and small  cap stocks with a value bias and a US REIT ETF.<\/p>\n<p>Under Vanguard\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new ETF pricing, there would be no commission charges for  setting up this portfolio since all of the ETFs belong to Vanguard.
