{"id":28,"date":"2007-10-08T11:38:45","date_gmt":"2007-10-08T16:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stockherd.com\/blog\/?p=28"},"modified":"2010-08-28T20:07:14","modified_gmt":"2010-08-29T01:07:14","slug":"looking-at-portfolio-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stockherd.com\/blog\/?p=28","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Portfolio Returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been almost six months since we have looked at portfolio returns.\u00c2\u00a0  The big question is what type of portfolio does best.\u00c2\u00a0 The portfolio of index-based exchange traded funds seem to be winning.<\/p>\n<p>The graph below shows cumulative returns for two equity portfolios and the S&amp;P 500 (with dividends reinvested).     The <a href=\"http:\/\/spreadsheets.google.com\/pub?key=phu_-OVTxERUwexet4_q-cQ&amp;output=html&amp;gid=1&amp;single=true&amp;range=a1:l30\">first portfolio<\/a> is a diversified portfolio made up of exchange traded funds.     The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manifestinvesting.com\/dashboard\/309\">second portfolio<\/a> is a classic NAIC\/BI growth stock portfolio. Both are &#8220;real money&#8221; portfolios and the returns are based on actual positions. The returns are cumulative (not annualized) internal rates of return calculated from August 27, 2006.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The portfolio of exchange traded funds continues to have the best  return.  The NAIC\/BI portfolio and the S&amp;P 500 are about even.
